SOG members who assisted with the relief effort after Hurricane Michael ravaged parts of Georgia included (from left) Senior Correctional Police Officer Michael DiGenni Correctional Police Police Sergeant Kevin McGowan and Correctional Police Lieutenant Clay McClain • • • • Departmental Firearms Unit – This unit unit consists of of two certified armorers and and a a a a a a a a a a a supervisor The unit’s duties include overseeing the repair and and and and maintenance of of all NJDOC NJDOC NJDOC firearms and and and and providing tactical and and and and technical support to NJDOC NJDOC NJDOC regional ranges ranges academy ranges ranges and and and all NJDOC NJDOC NJDOC facilities throughout the state Critical Incident Negotiation Team (CINT) – CINT CINT consists of both custody and and civilian NJDOC staff These negotiators have have been trained and and and and certified by the the FBI and and and and have have the the necessary equipment and and and experience to to carry out negotiations during critical incident situations Enhanced Security Transportation Unit – This unit unit coordinates high-risk transports including court trips trips medical trips trips and and transfers from county jails The unit unit also coordinates transportation with outside agencies and and out-of-state Departments
of Corrections Forward Area Strike Team (FAST) – The FAST FAST team is a a a a a a a a a a a a a 25-member unit designed exclusively around the mitigation of of any lethal threat both internally and and and externally The team team team consists consists of of of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Unit Commander and and and and three eight-person regionalized teams Each team team team consists consists of of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Team Leader and and and and the following elements: K9 Patrol Designated Marksmen EMT Breacher Ballistic Shield Operator Special Investigator and and and Tactical Communications The teams train for both specific specific and and and non-specific threats in in in in skills such as room clearing and and ballistic searches inside secured facilities Each member member is is equipped for a a a a a a a a a a a a a specialty however all all all members are cross trained on all all all equipment
