• HEARTS Program (The Heal and and Empower those overcoming Abuse and and Rape Through Support) is is a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a trauma recovery-based program program offered to the the female offender population This 12-week program program focuses on on on the the impact sexual abuse has on on on its victims and survivors In 2018 26 participants enrolled in HEARTS of which 58% percent completed the program • Enhancing education awareness and and and support for the the NJDOC employees and and and the the community at at at large through presentations on on on understanding victims’ needs enhancing skills for dealing with stress and and and trauma experienced by victims victims victims victims recognizing the the importance of of sensitivity toward victims victims victims and and and assisting victims victims victims with coping skills that will aid in in in in in in their their process of of healing and and improving upon their lives • Active participation in in in in state state county and and and other local local victim-related meetings and and and functions in in in in addition to to networking with national state state and and and and local local victim victim victim service service providers to to ensure the victims are afforded rights and and and services under federal state and local laws • The Critical Incident Stress Management Program responds to to traumatic incidents that may adversely impact an an employee’s ability to to to function both at at at at the the the time of of the the the event or later In 2018 the the Office of Victim Services responded to to 296 telephone
calls from victims Office of Volunteer Services NJDOC volunteers support support the the the the overall mission of of of the the the the Department and and are essential in in the the the the effective delivery of of of of programming and and and supportive services for for the the the the the offender population The office is is responsible for for facilitating the the the recruitment processing training and and evaluation of of NJDOC volunteers according to to guidelines established within the the Volunteer Volunteer Service Manual Volunteer Volunteer Coordinators in in in in in in in in in each institution help recruit train and support individuals throughout the the community community who seek to to volunteer in in in in in in in areas such as as religious services services education community community programming and recreational services services among many others In 2018 the NJDOC had a a a a a a a a a a a a a monthly average of of of 542 educational volunteers These dedicated individuals visited correctional facilities 6 6 6 947 times and performed a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a total of of of of 14 569 hours of of of of service service In addition the NJDOC had a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a monthly average of of of 653 approved religious services volunteers who visited correctional facilities 12 899 times and performed a a a a a a a a a a a total of of of 25 851 hours of service Office of Community Programs

is is to to to prepare offenders to to to reenter society as productive citizens and and to to to reduce the the the the likelihood that that they will relapse and/or recidivate To that that end the the the the the office contracts contracts contracts with private not-for-profit agencies
and and and and and provides effective administration of o of of the the the the contracts contracts contracts The contracts contracts contracts provide provide the the the the framework for for the the the the the provision of of of of community-based services services to to inmates and and and and mandates oversight and and and and monitoring for for the the the the delivery of of of of these services services The Office of of of of Community Community Programs
continually tracks the the the the movement of of of of of Residential Community Community Release Program Program (RCRP) inmates through the the the continuum of of of care The office also seeks to develop and and and maintain effective programs and and and services in in in in collaboration with other departments government subdivisions and and and stakeholders
