• Saving Our Sisters (S O O O O S S S S S S S ) – This program is is is a a a a a a a a a joint effort between the the NJDOC and

Public Safety State Office of of Victim-Witness Advocacy It provides services under the the the the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) The goals of of of of the the the the program are to to reduce reduce the the the the negative impact of of of of past domestic violence and
and
sexual victimization victimization of of of of of of female female inmates and
and
to to reduce reduce the the the the the risk of of of of of of future victimization victimization of of of of the the the female female victims of of of of domestic violence upon their release from prison S S S O S S S accomplishes this goal by providing specialized in-prison domestic violence/ sexual assault counseling and
and
and
support services in in in in in in both English and
and
and
Spanish and
and
and
linking S S S O S S S program participants to appropriate post-release community-based support services • Psychoeducational Programing – NJDOC provides a a a a a a a a a a two-part training to be taken
in in in in in in in in in sequence or independently titled Understanding Understanding Domestic Domestic Violence Violence and
and
and
Healthy Relationships The first training Understanding Understanding Domestic Domestic Violence Violence provides a a a a a a a a a a a a a basic understanding of of of abuse abuse and
and
and
and
power by exploring why people chose to abuse abuse and

and
and
defining the the the impact of of of trauma The second Healthy Relationships offers participants the the the opportunity to further evaluate past and
and
present relationships relationships by exploring feelings of of self-esteem and
and
and

51 inmates inmates participated participated in in in in in Healthy Relationships • Individual Counseling – Offenders who identify as as a a a a a a a a a a a past and/or present victim of of intimate partner violence are are offered the opportunity to participate in in in in in in individual counseling sessions sessions Therapy sessions sessions are are facilitated by a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a licensed clinical social worker and
